Two-piece systems only fit when the flange size on the pouch matches the flange size on the skin barrier. Hollister Conform 2 uses 45, 55 and 70 mm; HDL-Hendry uses 50, 60 and 70 mm. The two ranges are not interchangeable.
Measure the stoma with the guide supplied, cut the opening about 2 mm larger than the stoma so the wafer does not rub it, warm the barrier briefly between your hands, then press it onto clean dry skin and hold it for around thirty seconds. Body heat is what makes a hydrocolloid barrier bond properly.
A flat barrier is the right starting point when the stoma protrudes slightly and the skin around it is even. If output keeps getting underneath, the answer is usually a barrier ring or paste first — and a convex barrier only if the stoma is flush or retracted.
Flange size is not the same as stoma size. The 45, 55 and 70 mm refer to the coupling ring that the pouch clicks onto, and the pouch must carry the same number. Hollister 45/55/70 and HDL-Hendry 50/60/70 do not interchange.
About 2 mm larger than the stoma at its widest point. Too large exposes skin to output; too tight can rub the stoma. Re-measure in the first weeks after surgery, because the stoma shrinks.
Wear time varies with output, skin and activity, and is usually a few days. Change it if you feel itching or burning under the wafer rather than waiting for a leak.
