Two-piece systems only fit when the flange size on the pouch matches the flange size on the skin barrier. Hollister Conform 2 uses 45, 55 and 70 mm; HDL-Hendry uses 50, 60 and 70 mm. The two ranges are not interchangeable.

How this product is used

Closed pouches suit formed output — most often a sigmoid or descending colostomy. If you are emptying more than a couple of times a day, or output is loose, a drainable pouch is usually less work and gentler on the flange.

The pouch clicks onto the barrier flange, so the flange number on the pouch and the barrier must match. Hollister uses 45, 55 and 70 mm. A pouch is changed as often as needed while the same barrier stays on the skin for several days, which is the main reason two-piece systems suit people whose skin is easily irritated.

Filters can wet out and stop working, particularly with loose output or after swimming. Most patients carry a couple of spare pouches for that reason rather than treating a blocked filter as a fault.
